In 1990, HMML microfilmed the Grey Collection at the National Library of South Africa in Cape Town. This collection of 135 manuscripts consists primarily of medieval and renaissance European manuscripts formerly belonging to the colonial governor of South Africa, Sir George Grey. Some of the more decorated manuscripts were extensively filmed in color.
